The series continues to bring the manga to life wonderfully, and ramps up the zaniness in this second installment.
More comic hijinks and misunderstandings with Tenma, Harima, and all the rest.
School Rumble is your one-stop series for crazy high school comedy. As if the cast weren’t already large enough, even more characters get added to the mix this time around. For this series though, that’s not a problem. The focus of the series remains the infinitely complicated tangled web of relationships between the characters, and all of the ensuing assumptions, misunderstandings, and embarrassments that go along with them. The plot is very loose, as it was in the first series, so when there is a stretch of episodes where Tenma or Harima are hardly seen, it doesn’t seem as if the series has gone to a side-story. With such an enormous cast, it’s amazing that most of them get covered in some capacity.
While primarily a comedy, there are still some dramatic elements in the story which keep it grounded. This is keeping with the show’s remarkable ability to stick nearly perfectly with the manga source. As adaptations go, School Rumble is spot on.
And that’s about the size of it. School Rumble is not a complicated series, and if you’ve enjoyed the first season or the manga, you should definitely check it out. It’s absolutely hilarious, yet it still has some great drama in it. If it’s character-based comedy that you’re looking for, put School Rumble on your list.
